Privacy Policy

SkyRewards is an independent community project for pilots on the VATSIM network. SkyRewards is not affiliated with, endorsed, or supported by VATSIM; the VATSIM name and network belong to their respective organizations.

Data we collect

• VATSIM identity: when you sign in via VATSIM Connect, we receive your CID (VATSIM identifier) and the name associated with your VATSIM account. SkyRewards never stores a password: sign-in is handled entirely by VATSIM.
• Flight data: once your account is connected, we query VATSIM's public data feed (data.vatsim.net) to detect flights tied to your CID: callsign, aircraft type, route, altitude, speed, departure and arrival airports. This data is used to validate your flights and calculate your rewards.
• Content you create: profile avatar and banner, messages sent to support, friend requests, trade offers, and listings posted on the marketplace.
• Technical data: a session cookie to keep you signed in. Your IP address is used to rate-limit requests and detect abuse; we do not store it in our own database, but it appears in our host's technical logs, as with any website.

We never collect passwords or payment details, and we don't use any third-party analytics or advertising tools.

How we use this data

This data is used solely to run SkyRewards: detecting and validating your flights, calculating your progress (XP, levels, tours, cards), displaying leaderboards, and enabling social features (friends, trades, marketplace).

Visibility and sharing

Your profile, progress and statistics are visible to other pilots signed in to SkyRewards (leaderboard, public profile, pilot search). These pages are not reachable without an account. You can make your profile private at any time in your settings: you then disappear from the leaderboard and the search, and your public profile returns a not-found page. A separate setting hides your CID, and another your detailed statistics.

The name shown is your SkyRewards nickname if you have set one. Otherwise your VATSIM account name is displayed. Set a nickname in your settings if you would rather not show that name.

Third-party services

SkyRewards hosts its own fonts and uses neither advertising networks nor analytics tools. Three outside services still receive your IP address, because your browser contacts them directly:

• VATSIM: for signing in to your account (VATSIM Connect) and for the public data feed used to detect your flights.
• CARTO and OpenStreetMap: the map tiles shown on a flight page. They are only contacted when you open a page containing a map.
• SimBrief: only if you click "Open SimBrief" in the briefing of a tour leg. The flight parameters (airports, aircraft, callsign) are then sent in the address opened at SimBrief.

Cookies

SkyRewards only uses a technical session cookie, required to keep you signed in. No advertising or tracking cookies are set.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from your settings: deletion is immediate and permanent.
